Airfares To Savannah (GA) And Hilton Head (SC) Will Climb Sky High As AirTran Pulls Out Of
Savannah, (GA)
Airfares to Savannah (GA) And Hilton Head (SC) will climb sky high as AirTran pulls out of
Savannah, (GA) on October 27, 2008.
AirTran will discontinue nonstop service
from their Hub in Atlanta to Savannah (GA). AirTran has been serving Savannah
since 1994 and is the only low-cost carrier that serves Savannah. Once flights
stop, we expect airfares to climb 50% or more fro leisure travel and may triple
for business travelers wishing to depart with little or no advance notice.
As for Hilton Head, which is about 40 miles away, Delta Airlines and US
Airways are the only two U.S. airlines that serves the city. For the past few
years the two major airlines have been forced to offer competitive airfares to
Hilton Head due to the low airfares available to Savannah.
To add more bad news to Hilton Head, Delta Airlines plans to discontinue
service to Hilton Head on November 30, 2008. However, not all is gloom and doom
for those wishing to travel to or from Savannah or Hilton Head. Now is the time
to use our Compare Nearby Airport Feature even more than ever.
About 60 air miles away from Hilton Head is Charleston (SC) which will still
offer low airfares from AirTran and will continue to be matched by other
airlines. Charleston (SC) is also about 85 air miles from Savannah. Travelers
may still find cheaper airfares by departing out of Jacksonville (FL), which is
about 116 miles, which has three low cost carriers: Southwest Airlines, Jetblue
and AirTran.
