According to a report by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Atlantic City
(NJ) had the lowest average domestic airfare for the first quarter of 2008
amongst the top 100 airports. Number two on the list was Dallas Love Field,
followed by Burbank (CA), Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas.
The average
airfares were based on domestic itinerary fares, roundtip or one-way for which
no return is purchased. Average fares do not nclude frequent-flyer fares.
The inclusion of Atlantic City on a list of top 100 airports is debatable,
considering the fact that they are currently served by only Spirit Airlines.
Spirit currently runs 24 daily flights connecting Atlantic City with Myrtle
Beach (SC) and points in Florida, which accounts for their low average
airfare.
The highest average airfare for the same period belonged to Cincinnati,
followed by Greenville/Spartanburg (SC), Madison (WI), Knoxville (TN) and Grand
Rapids (MI).
